Method #3: Manually Remove it from the code
(Recommend, if Method #1 option is not available)

In a scenario that your theme doesn’t provide any option in customizer page and plugin method doesn’t work, this method will completely remove the credit link from your theme. It always works with any theme every time because you are technically modifying the code itself. The only downside for this method is every time the theme get updates, you have to remove them again.

There are two ways to do this, First using FTP client and second way by using WordPress theme editor.

Before you start, copy the credit link from any page on your website. You will need them to search in the theme’s footer file.

Use the FTP Client

  1. Access your website with FTP client and go to /wp-content/themes/
  2. Locate your current theme folder by its name
  3. Download footer.php file inside the theme folder (/wp-content/themes/thisisyourtheme/footer.php)
  4. Backup your file by making a copy to any folder.
  5. Open the file with your notepad or any text editor.
  6. Use search command to file the word you recently copied from your website’s footer.
Note: Sometime you might not find it with full sentences. Try parts of the sentence.
  7. Save and Re-upload the footer file to your theme folder.

Use WordPress Theme Editor

  1. Go to your WordPress admin area.
  2. Under Appearance menu click Editor.
  3. Find a footer.php file in the template list on the right-hand side.
Note: Make sure your current theme is selected in the dropdown

This method doesn’t work with all theme since each theme has different CSS ID or CLASS. We recommend you to go with any of above methods instead of this one. However, we include it to show that it is also possible to remove the credit link with. CSS.

  1. Go to your WordPress administrator area
  2. Under Appearance menu click the “Editor” submenu.
  3. Find a style.css file in the file list on the right side.
